At ASA, our aim is to cultivate a friendly and welcoming environment that reflects the ideal Islamic setting of the Prophet's companions (peace be upon him and his family). To achieve this, we adhere to prophetic guidelines in our interactions and instruct students on respectful engagement with their peers, teachers, and individuals of the opposite gender.

In one of the traditions of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family), he stated: "There is nothing more weighty on the scale of a person's deeds than good character." We recognize that good character cannot simply be learned from a book; it must be ingrained in the student's heart through companionship (suhbah). Consequently, we ensure our teachers follow the prophetic model and consistently strive for self-improvement. When establishing school policies and rules, we prioritize the cultivation of good character and spiritual nurturing.

Acknowledging that students exist within a society that diverges from the Islamic ideal, we understand that substantial time and abundant love are required for our students to wholeheartedly integrate the inner sunnah. To this end, ASA employs several strategies to instill these values.

Shared Spaces: While specific areas such as classrooms, restrooms, and prayer zones are designated for each gender, communal spaces such as libraries, dining areas, and common areas are shared. Students are educated on maintaining lowered gazes and engaging modestly when interacting with peers of the opposite gender.

We also instruct students on becoming conscientious Muslims and minimizing their ecological footprint. Our Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) taught us the significance of conserving resources, even near a riverbank. At ASA, we endeavor to emulate this level of environmental care. To this end, we curtail the use of disposable plastics, urging students to opt for reusable water bottles and utensils whenever feasible. Students are also permitted to bring their personal utensils, which can be stored at the school.

In terms of attire, our dress code encourages tidiness and simplicity, aligning with the prophetic sunnah and the practices of his companions. Students learn appropriate dressing while conforming to societal norms, all the while upholding Islamic values. Boys are advised to maintain well-groomed hair and beards, while girls are guided in dressing modestly and dignifiedly.

Phones and Technology Usage: Within the classroom setting, students are prohibited from using phones, tablets, and similar devices unless authorized by the teacher. Recognizing that technology is introduced to children at a young age, resulting in a significant reliance, we have not completely banned devices. Nonetheless, we strongly advocate for periods of "siyam," or detox from internet devices while within the premises of Al Salaam Academy.
